East Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton is the “gateway” to the city’s pristine beaches and parks. There is a small commercial zoned district that serves the neighborhoods East of the intracoastal waterway, For years, this 3 block area has been occupied by small cafes, surf & dive shops and other local businesses. In recent years, this area had become blighted. The goal of this redevelopment was to re-brand the district, renovate approximately 1,000 lineal feet of East Palmetto and renovate six separate buildings. The retail center architecture transformation began with the expansion and construction of a new one-of-a-kind 7-11 convenience store, This is not your average 7-11. Refer to separate post   http://mummaw.com/featured-architecture-interior-design-general-contracting-projects/one-of-a-kind-7-11-retail-store/ for details.

The theme of the Redevelopment Initiative was conceived by the Owner as “The Boca Beach Shops”, a fun, beach theme, colorful and dynamic commercial district.

We began with our forensic study of the building’s existing architecture. This is a usual first step. We look at the internal structure of the building so we can determine how to create the additions which transform it into a modern Retail Center. It is the goal of every Building Renovation to create a new Architecture and reestablish the building’s image.

CREATED The CREATED project successfully intertwines new raised parapets, decorative metal awnings, beautiful landscape architecture with pedestrian friendly lighting and decorative paver entries. Each store now has a large wall to accommodate their signage. Outdoor patios spill onto sidewalks and the pedestrian connectivity is enhanced.

The “Boca Beach Shops” are almost Complete. The last Building tucked under the bridge will have a unique architectural element that will connect the “gateway” to all residents driving by on Palmetto Park Road. This building culminates a 2 year journey to re-develop an important neighborhood district in the Boca Raton community.
